Salman Khan Reacts to Ranbir Kapoor’s ₹4,000 Crore Ramayana, His Remark Goes Viral
Salman Khan has shared his views on Ranbir Kapoor’s ₹4,000 crore Ramayana during a promotional event for Maatrubhumi. His remark about Ramanand Sagar’s iconic television series has sparked discussion.
During the event, media representatives asked Salman about Ranbir Kapoor’s ₹4,000 crore ‘Ramayana’. Responding to the question, the actor shared his views on the film with a smile. Salman said, “There is only one Ramayana. I have only watched Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana.”
His response indicated that Salman Khan had not watched the recently released ‘Ramayana’. His remark has since become a talking point, with videos of the exchange circulating on social media.
Salman further said that discussions surrounding ‘Ramayana’ should focus on the film itself rather than its VFX expenditure, production budget or other aspects. According to him, discussions about the film’s ₹4,000 crore budget and VFX are meaningless. Instead, the conversation should centre on ‘Ramayana’, Lord Ram, Sita and Ravana.
“Discussions should be about Ramayana, Ram, Sita and Ravana. All this VFX and other stuff is not real,” Salman said.
The actor also drew a comparison between his character in ‘Maatrubhumi’ and Lord Ram. Explaining his role in the war film, he said, “My character in Maatrubhumi is just like Ram. In it, I play the role of the best son, the best husband and the best father.”
Ramanand Sagar’s television series ‘Ramayan’ was originally broadcast on Doordarshan from January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988. Arun Govil played Lord Ram, Deepika Chikhalia portrayed Mata Sita, Sunil Lahri played Lakshman, Dara Singh appeared as Hanuman, and Arvind Trivedi portrayed Ravana.
Based on Valmiki Ramayana, Ramcharitmanas and other stories about Lord Ram, the series consisted of 78 episodes. It was broadcast again during the COVID-19 pandemic and received tremendous popularity.
Salman’s comments have brought renewed attention to the contrast between the discussions surrounding the ₹4,000 crore ‘Ramayana’ and the legacy of Ramanand Sagar’s television adaptation, which remains the actor’s reference point for the epic.
